Fireleaf

Fireleaf was inspired by the idea that some creatures seem to carry the landscape with them. This hare doesn't simply live among the flowers and leaves; it appears to be woven from them. Mid-leap and full of purpose, it feels as though it has emerged from the woodland itself, carrying fragments of every season in its coat.

There is a sense of movement running through the painting, balanced by the stillness of the surrounding plants. I've always thought hares have an air of mystery about them, appearing and disappearing so quickly that they never seem entirely part of the ordinary world. This one feels like a messenger from somewhere just beyond it.
