Garden of Echoes

Garden of Echoes came from the slightly ridiculous question of what might happen if a zebra wandered into an English country house and nobody seemed particularly surprised by it. The answer, apparently, is that it pauses among the flowers and decorative vases as though it has always belonged there.

I have always enjoyed placing wild animals in cultivated interiors, where the boundaries between indoors and outdoors begin to blur. Through the open doors, the garden stretches away into the distance, while inside, floral patterns and living plants create their own version of the landscape. The zebra stands quietly between the two worlds, perfectly at ease in both.
