Kindled Earth

There is something quietly ancient about hares. They appear in folklore, myths and old country tales so often that they seem to belong to the landscape itself. In Kindled Earth, I imagined a hare carrying the warmth of the land within it, woven from grasses, petals and seedheads gathered over countless seasons.

The title came from the feeling of the painting rather than any specific place. The flowers and foliage glow as though lit from within, creating a sense of stored sunlight and lingering warmth. It feels like one of those moments at the end of summer when the fields are full of colour and everything seems suspended between one season and the next.
