Mallowroot

Mallowroot belongs to a series of hares that feel as though they have grown directly from the landscape around them. Rather than sitting among the flowers, this hare seems woven into them, carrying leaves, petals and stems as naturally as fur.

The painting has a gentler, dreamlike quality than some of my other hare works. The cool blues and soft pinks create the feeling of a garden at the edge of twilight, where familiar plants take on an almost magical presence. I imagined Mallowroot as a quiet guardian of this place, moving silently through the undergrowth and leaving only the faintest trace behind.
