Meadowjoy

Meadowjoy was painted as a celebration of movement, colour and that fleeting feeling of happiness that seems to arrive without warning. The fox bounds through a meadow that feels almost dreamlike, surrounded by flowers that seem to spring up in its wake.

There's a sense that the landscape is responding to the fox rather than simply containing it. Everything feels alive and in motion. I wanted the painting to capture a moment of pure energy and optimism, the sort of scene that exists somewhere between memory, imagination and a perfect summer evening.
