The Scheming Pharmacist and The Deceitful Wife is an original painted diptych from my Medieval SubPlots series — a body of work that explores morality, secrecy, and social codes through birds depicted in period costume.

The piece consists of two individual paintings conceived as a single work and sold together. Each swan is shown in profile, their opposing gazes forming a quiet but charged dialogue across the pair. Rich in pattern and symbolism, the paintings draw on medieval visual language and folklore, with layered fabrics, decorative motifs, and carefully observed detail.

Professionally framed in substantial black wooden frames with fine gold slips, the diptych has a strong physical presence. The frames are solid and weighty, chosen to complement the historic tone and narrative seriousness of the work. The paintings arrive ready to hang.

A short narrative accompanies the diptych and forms an integral part of the Medieval SubPlots series. The full story is included as an image within the gallery for those who wish to explore the symbolism in more depth.
